This poor man. Most of the wereravens have fled this town, desperate to keep the winery from going under, but they’ve left Emeric behind to handle everything by himself. He’s already the outcast of them all, the one they expect to fail, and to think that this would just crumble on his head, worsening his reputation, would break my heart. But, he’s a fast learner, and applies what he’s taught. I can make him into the best chef this valley has ever seen, if I have enough time with him. Let’s start with some basics, first.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices of bacon
- 1 medium onion
- 3 carrots
- 3 stalks of celery
- 6 potatoes
- 8 cups of broth, chicken preferred
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp parsley
- 1 cup of grated cheese, aged cheddar preferred
Directions:
Mince the vegetables. Cook the bacon directly in the soup pot, and add the veggies to that to cook for 5- 10 minutes. Add the spices, and break apart the cooked bacon, adding them back to the pot.
Pour broth and bring to a gentle boil. Cook for ten minutes that way. Whisk flour and milk in a small bowl, and add to the soup, cooking 5 additional minutes. Remove 2/3 of the mixture and mash down well, before returning it to the pot. Add cream, cheese, keep warm for a few additional moments, then garnish and serve.
