Cats + Cartography is a series where I post a map I’ve made along with a picture of our cat.
When the D&D 5e Starter Set was first released I was an early adopter. I ran it online for friends but added a lot of homebrew material to it. The first thing I did was set its locations in my then homebrew setting of Remlia and the Lands of Adventure.
I made a brand new pixel map for the setting, heavily inspired by Shovel Knight. This was my first time working with pixel art. All things considered I think it turned out half decent.
Because I ran the game online I used Photoshop and screen share to show off the map to my players. Using its layers I animated the black fog, having it slide away to reveal new areas when they opened a new path on the map.
This game really drove home that I had a knack for running games online and creating custom content for them.
